Traits of a giver or a taker

This ❤️ Valentine’s Day ❤️ take a moment to reflect on whether you embody the traits of a giver or a taker. This matters - in personal relationships - and in the workplace.

Take a moment to reflect on whether you embody the traits of a giver or a taker. This matters - in personal relationships - and in the workplace.

In his book "Give & Take," Adam Grant details:

**Givers** prioritize contributing to others.

**Takers** focus on maximizing personal gains from relationships.

**Matchers** seek a balance between giving and receiving.

In an ultimate yoga pose, I demonstrate this in action with my dear friend Mary Louise Kelly. Who, when she isn’t joining me for yoga is reporting for NPR as the anchor for All things Considered.

We alternate between giving and taking, both benefiting—a true win-win scenario.

Translating this ethos to the workplace is paramount. Shift away from a scarcity mindset thinking success is a zero-sum game. Embrace a giving mindset which expands the pie for all.

4 tips to being a Giver:

1. Pay it Forward.
Dedicate time to do that 5 minute favor; small favors compound over time.

2. Thank a colleague who helps you out
Praise them in public.

3. Be an active listener, not an over-talker.
You will learn far more by listening than hearing yourself talk.

4. Ask others for help.
When you ask for help, you open the door and invite that giver in.

Final tip: Pay it forward. Share a moment below with how you've been a Giver. This will inspire others to be Givers too.
